This year, I plan to get my shit together and venture in that realm outside of my comfort zone.
What better way to accomplish that than to DARE myself. Not just a silent dare that I can forgo anytime, but something concrete and out there, something that you can slap in my face come December, hence this post.
Here goes everything.
1. Read 30 books
Okay, this might sound cheating since I have "read all unread books" in my 2013 goals but let me tell you something: I never exceed reading 15 books a year. Most that I do are rereads. I am a chronic disappointment -- I start a good book, get distracted by technology and media, leave poor book halfway through. With a specific number set this time, I'm ready to roll.
2. Learn to knit
I used to think that knitting was for mothers until I saw a 15-year old Dakota Fanning tell Ellen that knitting has always been her hobby. I've since wanted to get my hands on it -- and that's been, what, three years ago? I've done cross stitching, crocheting, and even quilting (!). I hope I can teach myself how to knit! I would be really, really over the moon happy if I make something out of it: a scarf, a bag, maybe even a sweater!
3. Join a marathon
After years of declining, I feel that it's high time to say yes to this. My body fat needs release, my sweat glands are screaming to be utilized. And most marathons are for a good cause, right? So, hey, this is already ticking two goals!
*Forners, if you're reading this: LET'S!!!
4. Climb a mountain
Soar high, right? This is a thing now (in my office, that is). The first and only time I climbed/trekked/hiked, or whatever you call it, was back in high school -- and that was a prerequisite. I wildly enjoyed it. I even jumped up and down at the peak of Mt. Makiling. I want to experience the thrill and the morning-after-muscle-sore again. Maybe I'll get an invite from my friends *cough* or courageously volunteer to join. We'll see.
5. Visit a local destination
Traveling isn't something that perks me up, unlike, say, a buffet spread would, so this is going to be a serious test. After my Iloilo-Boracay escapade with friends in 2009, the only time I left Manila was last year, for the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Clark, and that isn't even far enough. That's been two trips in four years. Lame. Let me add more to that this year.
I'm excited for all these, actually, and what the rest of the Wanderrbabies are up to!

Ikaw na. Just imagining myself in a marathon makes me tired. And then there's the mountain, ikaw na talaga. I'll be watching your blog and well, you're the one who said this: "something that you can slap in my face come December". Haha, nice way to put it. Good luck! :D
ReplyDeletePreparing for marathons require too much effort but it's soo worth it after joining one! Hoping you could join one this year :D That book dare is really interesting though because of school, I can't have 30 in a year either! Maybe it's good to keep a tracker for this one.
ReplyDeleteGood luck for accomplishing everything in this list! :)
have you considered a book group? My goal is 50 books this year! :)
ReplyDeleteActually, no. I know the required deadlines would really push me to reach my goal but right now I want to do it in my own pace and see if I can actually succeed. :)
ReplyDelete50 books is a loooot! Hey, let's cheer each other on! :)
I'm really looking forward to run (and be left behind, haha), so hopefully! I'm planning on maybe posting the books I've read per month to track my progress. *fingers crossed*
ReplyDeleteThanks! And you as well! :)
Good luck with your book goal! I used to have a problem with not reading enough and re-reading all the time, but having a quantifiable amount (instead of just "more books") helped me read more books.
ReplyDeleteYour goals are really adventurous, I can feel the soreness already, haha. Take care with those. :) Looking forward to December when I can slap these in your face- joke, kidding, good luck! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you :)! Putting a number to it does work (like a ticking time bomb).
ReplyDeleteWe have each other to monitor now, hahaha! I hope we won't get sore cheeks in December. :p
