Princesses and Meth

Having had a shot of flu vaccine just a few weeks ago, I stood dumbfounded when I was forced to go on bed arrest this past weekend because of fever. It all started with my sinusitis, then the weather that was a horrific blend of gusty winds and strange rain happened, and all of a sudden I became the sick, chubby pig with Rudolph red nose. That's how I spent 5 days in bed. Shocker.

I managed to read 2 books, one of them
Forever Princess, which I got as a steal on NBS' sale stack last week. When I chanced upon it, I had doubts of purchasing since I already had 2 books in hand and was only relying on the GCs I snagged from the office. But of course, to hell with it. I remembered borrowing the first 5½ books from a classmate back in high school and how much I enjoyed it, not to mention that the series is different in an extremely fun way than the movies. I guess having missed 7 books in between Volumes V and X was a letdown, but it's good that I now know how it ends. Michael and Mia forevah! (I had to let it rhyme, sorry. And who else thinks that the movie's sequel had a shitty plotline? My fingers and toes are on salute.)

I watched The Dark Knight Rises the same day I bought the books. I never really had a keen interest in Batman until after seeing the final installment. I entered the cinema without any expectations, just a ho-hum notion of breezing through the 3-hour movie. But oh. my. god. I liked that it isn't as dark and twisted as The Dark Knight but still managed to scare the ~shit out of me (I don't know, but it was like I was watching 24 all over again). It kept me glued from beginning to end, considering that I just came from an 11-hr shift at the office and was watching the last full show. The montage at the end killed me. It was so good. Even though it was a bit predictable how JGL was Robin and that Bruce survived the blow after all, that conclusion was pretty much one of the best I've seen in trilogies.

Keeping up with my whatthefuck goal of drowning in a bunch of tv series this year, I started Breaking Bad today. I had seen and heard sooo many good reviews about it and well, it is, indeed. Before this, the only knowledge I had about meth is that it was an illegal drug. After finishing the first season tonight, though, I feel like I've cooked and sniffed crystal meth myself. It was a bit heavy for me to watch so maybe I'll take a breather before getting on board the next one. It sort of helps that it only runs at 7-13 episodes per season. Honestly, I don't know why Walter White chose that fucking path he chose (oh, hell-o, pride) but it makes for good tv so there's that.

Of course, there's also my weekly catch-up on Suits (tomorrow I shall watch episodes 6 and 7 and I reaaaalllyyy want to see a Harvey-Donna love arc blossom, hee) and Awkward (choosing between two guys is a dilemma I want to tackle on at least maybe once in my lifetime so right now I'm taking notes, and living vicariously through Jenna).

I got to revamp my blog, too, and it was a blur. I was supposed to watch Suits 2x06 last Tueday but you know what happens when inspirations strikes (hm, not really). Curiosity got the best of me so I found a new font for my post titles, changed my color scheme, and made a new header. One thing I really wanted to learn was how to change the blog's highlight color. I always go to Businessweek's site just to select and deselect texts because of its ORAAANGGGEEE highlight color. I was quite successful with it (it's now a shade of green) but it bugs me that the spaces are still highlighted with the default color. And it's only on posts from July onwards. The rest are failproof. I don't know how to fix it (I'm no good in these, ugh), but I'll find a way.

Pretty psyched for the coming week. Birthdays, a concert, and a circus!
