Sparks

On that serene corner of her favorite park, she sits alone, book in hand. Rain clouds abound and in seconds, soft rain pours. She takes out her yellow umbrella, opens it, and continues to read, not minding her cornflower blue dress and silver brogues getting splattered by the rain shower. She ends her favorite chapter with a faint smile on her face. Tucking the book in her bag, she starts circling the park, a hobby she's been doing since autumn started. In front of the local fountain, she stops and lets out a whistle. Charlie, as what she calls him, came running down in an instant. The eskimo dog started munching on the treats on her palm. After ruffling his hair and giving a sweet peck on his cheek, the hound went straight back to his owner, a vet who jogs everyday at this time. She then continued her trek.

The rain has stopped now. She passed by an ice cream store she frequents and got herself a scoop each of mint chocolate chip and butter pecan. The guy at the counter asked if she can possibly come out to see his band play at a bar downtown tonight. He has been crushing on her and she knows, but she apologized and declined. She has plans for tonight.

She took slow steps walking down the pavement, letting her senses float, enamored by the quaint antique stores and bookshops on the street, the scent of mist in the air, the cool breeze, and the laughter echoing from families dining al fresco. She took a turn at the end of the street. When she reached the entrance of their favorite restaurant, she breathed deeply, taking in the lovely scent of the potted hydrangeas. She fixed her trench, all the while preoccupied with excitement for what's to come. She had been waiting for this night forever. She walked inside and spotted the gentleman in a sport coat instantly. All nervousness washed away. He stood up. She reached the table and they all but stared, teeth all glowing from an absolute smile they've never shown nor worn for months now. Then, they hugged. A hug that breaks boundaries, crushes bones, and fills every gap that has been missed.

A tear fell.
This is going to be a night of rainbows and falling comets, and nobody needed to tell her that.
