Five Favorites

It's been a crazy week. I juggled going home to two houses in one day, for four days. I slept for three hours on most nights, which made it extra hard to wake up even with two sets of alarm. Despite that, it's been productive and there had been an outpour of clarity and calm. But I'm not going to talk about that. I'm gonna go ride a Segway to do my segue and move on to a list of five things that made me happy this week.

1. I remember early mornings as a kid, waiting in the bench outside our house for a taho vendor to come by. My mom will send out big mugs and bowls to be filled with silken tofu, sago, and brown sugar syrup. I remember asking people why they stir their taho, how it ruins the taste. I would eat mine by spooning off two-thirds of the tofu first, and it is only when I reach the near bottom that I stir the remaining tofu with the syrup, and then I close my eyes and drink the sweet, bold, rich taste of my favorite breakfast snack. You see, childhoods are pivotal when it comes to the taste department.

I buy taho before coming to work whenever I feel a craving and, every time I do, I feel that there's just something missing. The taho in Makati (well, around RCBC Plaza, that is) never made me happy. It is watery and subdued, and the syrup tastes like it was taken off the pan before it even began caramelizing. Bottom line is, it never hit home. Last Sunday, after jogging around UP, I took two steps back after overtaking a taho vendor in the sidewalk. I bought a cup (a small one costs 20 pesos and I thought it was ridiculous), took a sip, and OH MY GOD, it is the taho I've been dreaming about all this time. I'd willingly pay twice if it was what's being sold beside Columns. I kept blurting out "ang sarap" until I finished the cup. It was that good.

2. It was almost midnight when my aunt started unpacking her baggage straight from the airport last Monday. I received a set of makeup brushes and a brush cleanser (YAY) -- I was so ecstatic and it was evident in the way that I was swirling the kabuki brush around my face while staring at everyone in the living room. Anyway, that wasn't my sweet. We started a mini fashion show-slash-photoshoot with Nicole, one that she clearly enjoyed. Here's my niece being all so kyot.

3. A few late night laughs from the past two weeks. Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers are my late night best friends.

Ew! with Seth Rogen and Zac Efron

Bonus:  I needed to add this because DANE DEHAAN

4. I went to the NBS Warehouse Sale last Friday just to look around. I had zero intentions of buying anything because I was on a tight budget. I noticed that there weren't many options to choose from, which was a good/bad thing, depending on your preference. I made one purchase, though, Melanie Dunea's My Last Supper, The Next Course. I found it lying on the bottom of a stack of books and I immediately grabbed it and hugged it like my life depended on it. It took a while before I convinced myself to proceed to the cashier. It was big and wonderful and a bargain at P150. It was worth it.

5. Okay. Hey. I'm putting this last but it's definitely the highlight of this list. Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy on The Graham Norton Show. I don't think I need to stress how already perfect the show is. I've seen it four times already. The chemistry of these three mutants is palpable. Hugh Jackman is the life of the party. It really shows how fun of a host he is. Michael Fassbender has a pretty face, a big mouth, and an almost perfectly cartoon-y set of teeth. It's the first time I've heard his real accent and I find it amusing. Do I even need to explain James McAvoy's effect on me? His face, his wit, his accent, and all his sexual innuendos made my week (and made me weak). Below are snippets from the BBC YouTube channel, but you must see its entirety. You just have to.
*Not that it matters, but I've noticed that they are actually seated by age, starting with Graham on the left (oldest) to James (youngest).
