I'm setting this as a recurring post, to keep pace, because all I ever do here is post sporadically. Songs that inspired my week/s with some random babble. Win-win? No? Okay.
This is a total rip-off of Tom Hiddleston's "Song of the Day" pakulo on Twitter, which was so cool, Zach Levi copied it and helmed his version as "Soundtrack of Life," which Hiddles most certainly approved of. I love bromances, especially the Loki/Fandral kind, and I cannot wait for Thor: The Dark World.
Here's what I hooked up for this week:
1. Hoppípolla - Sigur Rós
Smiling
Spinning round and round
Holding hands
The world a blur
But you are standing
(translated lyrics; Sigur Rós is Icelandic)
My life's theme. When I leave this world for Asgard, please do a montage of my mundane life with this song set in the background. Thank you.
2. When It Rains - Paramore
You made yourself a bed at the bottom of the blackest hole
And convinced yourself that it's not the reason you don't see the sun anymore
Their new album is pretty solid, a new sound altogether (new band, new sound?). Listen to Part II and Let The Flames Begin and compare the two. :) I still have so much love for Riot!, though, and I consider it their best record. This song is from that album, and is my favorite.
3. Prom - Sugarfree
Parang atin ang gabi
Para bang wala tayong katabi
At tayo'y sumayaw
Na parang di na tayo bibitaw
Early this week, I came across a tweet with two lines of this song. Instant LSS. I only calmed down after finally singing this aloud at home, bugging my brother with my perfect singing voice. I never experienced prom (exclusive-girl's-school-that-practices-extreme-simplicity-and-keeps-its-pupils-away-from-boys problem). I didn't mind; didn't actually care. This song is experience enough.
4. Adorn - Miguel
The same way that the stars adorn the skies
The same way that my whole world's in your eyes
Hello, I'm listening to RnB again.
5. I Think Ur A Contra - Vampire Weekend
My revolution thoughts
Your little arrows of desire
I want to trace them to the source and the wire
Ezra Koenig. 'Nuff said.
6. Mirrors - Justin Timberlake
With your hand in my hand and a pocketful of soul
I can tell you there's no place we couldn't go
I first heard this when JT hosted SNL back in March and I haven't stopped listening to it since. I sometimes spend days at work listening to this on loop. Have you seen him perform this on Ellen? I FANGIRL-ed SO HARD. I thank the heavens for creating *NSYNC and bringing to us this now-dapper god.
7. The District Sleeps Alone Tonight - Birdy
I'm staring at the asphalt, wondering
What's buried underneath
I love this cover as much as The Postal Service's original rendition. Birdy's voice is a perfect lullaby.
